When Ariadne, Princess of Crete, vows to help free the Athenian prince, Theseus, and his fellow tributes - sacrifices for the monster which allegedly lurks beneath her palace's floors - she hopes she will free herself from the savage rule of her father, too.

Instead, Ariadne finds herself abandoned on an island.

Worse still, it’s looking like the only way to escape this island and seek revenge on Theseus is to join the followers of Dionysus, a very minor god with delusions of grandeur, appalling fashion sense, but, crucially, a very fast boat.

Only now the rumours aren't just about Theseus and her but Theseus and her sister. If she's going to stop him before he hurts anyone else, Ariadne needs to do more than simply ally herself with Dionysus. She needs to marry him.

It’s purely a marriage of convenience, of course. Neither is at all interested in love – no matter the tension growing between them. But their union brings the one thing they’ve both been looking for: power.

And Ariadne is going to unleash that power on every so-called hero. She’s going to bring their labyrinth of lies crashing down, brick by brick. No story is safe. And even the gods should tremble . . .
