Kate has worked as a nurse and teacher before pursuing a career in writing. Having been brought up on the side of the beautiful Malvern Hills, she is a country girl at heart although she now finds herself living in Reading with her husband, teenaged daughters and wonderfully bonkers collie-cross.

Under the name of Kate Wells, Kate is the author of the Malvern Farm Mystery books which are inspired by her upbringing on the Worcestershire/Herefordshire border, and her time spent living and working on farms.

Under the name of Kate Poels, she writes books for children, school resources and reading scheme titles. She delivers creative writing courses and workshops which give her the opportunity to combine her love of teaching with her passion for stories and writing.

She reviews books both on her Instagram feed and BBC Radio Berkshire. For three years she co-coordinated the FCBG Children’s Book Award.
